“The United States does not torture people.” — George W. Bush, Oct. 5, 2007
Of course now we know that the United States in blatant violation of that quaint old Geneva Convention, does torture people. And witnessing the pretzel logic of the apologists and white-washers would be funny if it weren’t so damned tragic.
Unctuous Reagan fluffer, her highness Peggy Noonan in a ‘hear no evil, see no evil’ mewling:
It’s hard for me to look at a great nation issuing these documents and sending them out to the world and thinking oh much good will come of that. Sometimes in life you wanna’ just keep walkin’. … Don’t always be issuing papers and reports.
All that pesky evidence! Don’t always be presentin’ that evidence. Yes your honor, I did rob the bank and gun down the guards, but let’s just keep walkin’.
But the best has to be this Hoover Institution clown and former Bush speech writer Marc Thiessen:
The job of the
torturerinterrogator is to safely help the terrorist do his duty to Allah, so he then feels liberated to speak freely.
See, the United States is liberating people by hanging them naked from the ceiling for 11 days at a time. Or helping them by sleep depriving them until they shit all over themselves and their heart rates drop. Or turning them into human vegetables. But of course there are “doctors” there to make sure no real damage is done.
Despite Obama’s politically expedient desire to “move forward,” hopefully pressure is building to hold the people behind these crimes accountable. Then Thiessen can pen a column on how ‘no good deed goes unpunished.’
